REPORT NO.8

LADY MILNE SELECTION

Following last weekend’s trial, the team to represent Wales in the Ladies Home Internationals has been chosen and is as follows:

Aida Aris & Sue Ingham

Gilly Clench & Maggie Pierce

Liz Commins & Diane Kurbalija

NPC: Linda Greenland

Reserve pair: Mary Lee & Joan Marray

The Lady Milne this year will be tough, with England as the host nation fielding two teams. Nonetheless Wales has a very experienced team who are capable of challenging for the trophy. The event takes place at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham International Airport, on the weekend of 17/18/19 April. All matches will be shown live on BBO. We wish the team well.

JUNIOR CAMROSE/PEGGY BAYER

For the first time in several years Wales is able to field teams in the Junior Home Internationals – a tribute to the hard work put in by our Junior Co-ordinator, Mark Roderick. We are the hosts, and the event will take place at The Seabank Hotel, Porthcawl, on the weekend of 21/22 February.

The Welsh teams are as follows:

Junior Camrose (u 25):

Jonny Richards & Ben Barrett; Becky Watkins & Alice Smart

NPC: Paul Denning

Peggy Bayer (u 20)

Joe Mullally & Sarah Greener; Stephen Loat & James Harris

NPC: Julian Pottage/Gwynn Davis

If you possibly can, come along to The Seabank to support the teams. They certainly deserve it. Enquiries and offers of assistance to our Match Manager, Irene Thomas (r.h.thomas@ntlworld.com) or to the Hospitality Manager, Jenny Vaughan (jenny@jbvaughan.plus.com).

SENIORS TRIAL

This trial is scheduled for next weekend, at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells. As previously advised, eleven pairs are competing.

The trial will comprise ten head-to-head matches, each of 9 boards. Given the sit-out, the schedule is for six matches on the Saturday, five on the Sunday. Play starts at 11.25 on Saturday, finishing at 7.25pm; and at 10am on Sunday, finishing at 4.40 pm. There will be a 35 minute lunch break on both days, in which sandwiches, tea and coffee will be provided.
