168 -WBU PREMIER LEAGUE

This event will be held over 2 weekends at Cardiff Bridge Club on 21-22nd October and 4-5th November 2023.

The entry fee will be £400 per team of 4,5 or 6 players.

The Selectors will primarily use this event to select a team of 3 pairs to play in the CAMROSE on 5-7 January (in Wales) and 3-5 March 2024 (in England).

167 – 55th International Tel-Aviv Festival

The WBU has received an invitation to enter a team of four players in the 55th International Tel-Aviv Bridge Festival in Israel.

The International Tel-Aviv Festival will take place from 27th of June until the 1st of July, 2023, at the Shlomo Group Arena in Tel-Aviv.

The invitation includes accommodation for 4 nights from 27th – 30th of June 2023  (Tuesday to Friday) at the Leonardo Beach hotel. Entry to the tournament will be free of charge for the team players and a shuttle service will be available to take players from the hotel to the venue and back each day.

We need to inform the organiser of  any plans to enter a team, no later than the 31st March, so the organisers can make the necessary preparations. as they only have a budget for four teams).

There will be no funding available from the WBU should players wish to participate in this event, but if anybody is interested in playing in this event (and time is of the essence), then please let the Selectors know as soon as possible and we can then inform the organisers of our interest.

166 – WORLD TRANSNATIONAL OPEN TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIP

The WBF is pleased to confirm that the 13th World Transnational Open Teams Championship will be held at Movenpick Mansour Eddahbi Palais des Congrès in Marrakech.

The Event will be organised by the World Bridge Federation in cooperation with the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Bridge.

The 13th World Transnational Open Teams will take place from Monday 28th August until Saturday 2nd September. Being Transnational Open Teams, the Event is open to teams composed of players from different National Bridge Organisations, that are in good standing with their own Bridge Federation, and approved by the WBF Credentials Committee.

The Event is also a great opportunity for players to participate in a wonderful bridge tournament while at the same time having a unique opportunity to experience all the atmosphere and excitement of the final stages of the Bermuda Bowl and Venice Cup and watch some of the greatest players in the world on a vugraph presentation. There are no quotas for this Championship and the WBU as a NCBO has been asked to publicise the event as widely as possible and encourage teams to enter.

#SELECTORS BULLETIN #162 TELTSCHER TRIAL

You are invited to enter the WBU PAIRS TRIAL for the 2023 TELTSCHER taking place in WALES next May in the Holiday Inn Hotel, Newport.

Should you qualify to represent either WALES or the WELSH BRIDGE UNION in this event there are additional hotel costs of £330 per player.

These costs may be reduced should locally based players not need hotel accommodation.

Any players who do not want to stay at the hotel should contact the organisers to see if this will be possible.

The PAIRS TRIAL will take place over the weekend of 4th & 5th February 2023 at the Commodore Hotel in Llandrindod Wells if there are enough entries.

If there are not enough entries for a trial to be viable then teams will be selected from those that were prepared to enter the trial.

If there are still not enough players to make up the two teams needed, other pairs may be invited to play.

The entry fee for the trial is £100 per pair the Commodore Hotel are offering discounted hotel accommodation.

The closing date for entries to the trial is 31st December 2022.

The entry fee is £100 per pair the Commodore Hotel are offering discounted hotel accommodation.

SELECTOR’S BULLETIN #159 – 11th European Women’s National Pairs Championship 9th European Seniors’ National Pairs Championship Funchal – Madeira / Portugal

The 11th European Women’s National Pairs Championship and the 9th European Seniors’ National Pairs Championship will be held at the Savoy Palace Hotel in Funchal from 12th to 15th June 2022.

It is anticipated that each Championship will consist of two stages: a Qualifying Stage, and a Final Stage (with an Final A and Final B). However, should the number of participants permit, there will be a one stage all-play-all competition.

Details of the competitions may be changed according to the final

Women and Senior bridge players who are registered members of Zone 1 NBOs and in good standing with their Federation are entitled to participate.
